PIFO Gallery was founded in 2006. It is China's premier gallery to present abstract art. PIFO brings together the works of contemporary Chinese artists with European post-war masters. The goal is to spread connoisseurship for Asian and Western abstraction in art and deepen the understanding and appreciation for the artists that we (re-)discovered and believe in.
PIFO Gallery is delighted to present the distinguished Germany contemporary artist Franz Ackermann’s first solo exhibition in mainland China. Franz Ackermann was born in 1963, awarded the scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 1990, he is one of the most important German artists of his generation. Franz Ackermann is well-known for the psychedelic, vibrant paintings and immersive installations incorporating the architecture of a space. His works centered on themes of tourism, globalization and urbanism, had reflected the social changes and political issues wrought by increasing globalization and the resulting cultural homogenization.
Franz Ackermann is considered as one of the most active influential artists in the world, has participated the Venice Biennale in 2003 and exhibited extensively including the Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Kunsthalle Bonn; Kunsthalle St Gallen, Switzerland and Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. His works are held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, in New York etc,. Franz Ackermann would create the site-specific installations at PIFO Gallery in the upcoming exhibition.
